Old 77 Chev settings

Just been given a 1977 Chev 1/2t pickup with 350. I am putting in a new timing chain kit and plugs among a few other low cost items. What I need to know is what gap are the plugs, points set at and what would be the suggested timing?

Thanks

'77 chevy motor should have an HEI dist. (No Points) Plugs gaped at around .045. Timing set at around 8 degs BTDC.

I looked this up, the timing is 8deg BTDC . the plugs are R-45ts with a gap of .045 .

starting in 1975 the points were removed , this has a more powerful ignition spark than the pre 75 engines...you should replace the wires also if they are old ...take care in how you run these wires ..

I would also replace the fuel in carb filter ..the fuel pressure should be 7-9 psi..idle 500-600 rpm...when adjusting the timing follow the sticker instructions if you can still read it..

before timing the engine get some white chalk and mark the timing dial then put some on the harmonic bal. mark...this will make this very easy to see..
