Chevy shifting problems
I have a 1997 Chevy P/U that is giving the following codes: P0740, P0753, P0785, & P1860. The check engine light comes on intermittently, the gauges will temporarily quit working, and it feels like the transmission is stuck in 3rd gear when I take off. I have read a few other post that suggest the ignition switch needs to be replaced when all these codes appear. Is this a correct diagnoses?
Thanks, Toby |

Re: Chevy shifting problems
Hi Toby and welcome to AF.
Yes the ign sw could be suspect, BUT before you go there try a couple of other things. 1. REPLACE the TRANS fuse (even if it looks good). 2. Remove the connector at the tranny. Clean with electrical cleaner and inspect the pins and sockets and then re-seat it. 3. When this happens just stop with the engine running and check for power at both sides of the TRANS fuse. If you do not have power there, then you can start suspecting the ign sw and/or wiring in the column. Let us know what you find.
