datto 510

well i dugg this revell kit i had started to hack over 5 years ago. the detail is ok, needs some work on cleaning up, the front wheels don't turn right or left, has poor fitment and mold flash just about everywhere even on the chrome pieces, and panel lines need attention as well. gotta fix some mistakes from years ago so it's scratch building time.

Re: datto 510

Nice, looks like a good kit. I like the moulded in arches and bonnet pins. Was it the Pete Brock race version originally? Wheels look good. It will be good to see progress so that I can compare to my four door version!

Re: datto 510

thanks bud. it's not the BRE version. it's the tuner. ill be replacing the hood and trunk pins with some PE pieces. i hope you enjoy it as much im enjoying your build.

had some time to work on it a bit. started cleaning the chassis a bit, and the main hoop for the roll cage. the stance and camber is what ill be going with. a bit extreme for some, but i like it.

Re: datto 510

Looking good! Wow that camber and stance are extreme indeed! I have seen some pictures on Japanese websites with that sort of stance and camber. I must admit it is a bit too extreme for me (looks a bit too much as if the car has been squashed by something very heavy to me) but as long as you like it that's what is important!

datto 510

this time around i took a look at the exhaust. i managed to bend it like so, enough to barely clear the chassis and axle.

and this was my alternative to making the wheels turn left/right and add some more "demon camber"

but after doing some more research, the control arms are in the wrong spot and it's missing the strut arms to keep the arms from moving while steering. being picky about this, i am going to correct this issue.

Yeah man, knock it out of the park! I pulled my kit out last week to give it another look as well. That engine bay would look great stuffed with a rotary engine.

Re: datto 510

thanks bud, glad to see someone else bust out a 510. a rotary would look good under there, a triple rotor would be even better?? hmm
i have a buddy w/a 510 rotary powered little beast. wicked fast and handles like a go-kart.

Re: datto 510

ok, so it's been a while since the last update. been fiddling with it every now and then.
heres some of what i've done lately

i reduced the inside lip, looks closer to the real thing

made some strut arms and brackets. might redo them.

stripped the chrome off the bumpers (further below) valve cover and carb set up. horrible looking carbs, i might use some fuJIMMY carbs

new dash. might put some carbon fiber on this panel. dunno.

engine bay is gonna be a partial front tube chassis.

drilled some holes on the rivets as if they are missing, along with the side marker lights and key hole. part of the theme.

Re: datto 510

heres some more. im slow paced

did some engine work. got some hose fittings this weekend. got the right ones on a guess.

made the stock oil pan into a race style oil pan.

made these pulleys, didn't like the bulky, flash flooded parts.

started to fill in the frame/chassis rails, since they are not this way on 1:1

dual pipe??? or single??

enclosing the engine bay. don't mind the gap, it will not be there once properly fitted in the end.

thanks for looking.
