2000 GTP - how to re-install harmonic balancer

I've got the classic symptoms of a failing crankshaft position sensor on my 2000 GTP (hesitation/sometimes stall, then tach goes to zero and TCS light comes on a few seconds later. Cycling the engine corrects, until the next time it happens.)

I've purchased an OEM CPS and a Lisle harmonic balancer puller for 3800 engines and plan to do the job this coming weekend.

I've found good instructions on this forum on how to remove the balancer; however, I could not find any details on how to re-install the balancer, afterward. Same goes for the instructions on the packaging of the Lisle 3800 puller (instructions on how to remove; but, nothing on how to re-install.)

Does the harmonic balancer just easily press back on by hand or do I need to force it back on with a hammer&board?

Could anybody who's done this job let me know how they got the balancer back on?

Any other tips/things to watch out for on this job, would also be appreciated.

btw - the link in the tips and maintenance section on replacing the CPS (http://mykidz.net/GTP/CrankPosSensor.shtml ) is broken (404 - not found).

Re: 2000 GTP - how to re-install harmonic balancer

That link is no longer available.

Putting the crankshaft balancer aka harmonic balancer on is easier than taking it off. Just lube the inside of the balancer where the end of the crankshaft will insert with clean motor oil. Then install the balancer. The bolt should tighten it down on to the crankshaft. The hard part is getting the crankshaft not to move when tightening the bolt. Shops use a flywheel locking/holding tool, GM J 37096.

Torque the crankshaft balancer bolt to 111 lb-ft and then an additional 76 degrees using a torque angle meter/gauge.
