I have a 2001 chev metro, I would like how to disable the eng check lite

Disconnect the negative battery cable for a few seconds then reconnect. The light will come back on if the problem still exists.

Thanks but I want to know if there is a way to disable it if the fault still exsists. like a fuse or something?

Pretty sure the only way is to take the bulb out of the cluster. Why do you want to disable it? Inspection?

Yes inspection, I did scan and it failed for o2 sensor I don't know if it's pre or post cat and both r very rusty

Why not fix the problem? Do you happen to know what the code is? There may be a temp fix for certain codes. Post the codes here.

No I don't the place that did the insp told me it's a O2 sen but not which one. 50/50 what one fails most? i'm also afraid it might break off cause of corr.

Most auto parts stores will scan it for free. Get the code and try to fix it. The inspector is going to check to see if the light is working. You'll fail the test if he finds that.

Go to a parts store that offers free OBDII scanning. Get the code. If it is a P0420, we can get that light out for you to pass your test or whatever. I know how.

Even if you pull the bulb you will still fail inspection.

Mine had/has a P0420, but it will only return after a dozen starts or so, which means that using an OBD-II tool to reset/clear the code will allow the light to remain off for sufficient time to pass a test that checks for a code. Whenever I have done so, the tiny engine has always been well below allowed limits for:
HC, CO, CO2, and NOx.
That said, it should NOT be hard for a 1.0 l engine to produce emissions below limits that allow 6.0 liter engines to 'pass' <eyesroll>

It takes "a dozen starts or so" for the PCM to complete it's tests and pronounce itself ready after clearing a code. If you clear the code and go in for a test, they're going to tell you to drive it for a week or two and come back.

You're right, it "should" be much easier for a 1 liter to pass the test than any larger car, but that's not the way it works. It's measured in PPM which flies directly in the face of logic and reason. Just the way you'd expect government to work, can't wait until they're in charge of my personal health and well being.
