Cell Phone Upgrade '96 LTC Cartier?

I'm wondering if the Control Unit for the Integrated Cell Phone can be upgraded to be Digital? My 1996 LTC Cartier has the (working) Arm Rest Hidden Motorola Cell Phone and in Oregon, Hands-Free is now required by law. One can fetch the ESN from the phone but this will be of little use as no Cell company will provide service as all Cell Phones must also be 911 Compliant.

So can the Motorola Module in the Trunk just be swapped out? And if no swap currently exists a guy could make a fortune providing them.

Serious? maybe I don't get out much, I've not heard of that one.

There's a few guys over at LincolnsOnlline that have there's working. Cell provider dosn't like it but for those few guys they do it.. they are saying the only speedbump dealing with the provider was getting them to use the analog service.

Same guys brag about the power and clarity of the OEM installation.

Now here's sometihng more along the lines you're referring to... there was one other guy over there that did a bluetooth kit integration. We all know those bluetooth kits cost in the $100's.. that's what stopped me from doing this.. I just don't use my phone enough to justify the cost.

Anyway he was able to add the kit mic up in the roof panel where the OEM one was located, then he wired the kit to the RCU in the trunk and some wires up front, wired the JBL system to a Mic Mute on the kit that also displays "PHONE" on the HU Display and mutes the music as it hands over the speakers to the kit when the phone rings.. nice! Even works with the HU shut off.

He claims this whole installation took about 4 hours to do it neatly. I have the details somewhere if your interested I can dig 'em up.

My Phone is in perfect working condition, the clarity is excellent, the one-touch feature is awesome and it has voice dialing. I can tell it who to call! The integration is great to the audio system and I'd love to be able to use it. I guess I'll try again and make my provider provide me service. I do have three lines with them and I could threaten to change providers.....

News Flash!

My provider (T-Mobile) will only activate a Cell Phone with a SIM Card.
