This is a 1994 caprice with an LT1. Car was running fine and than one morning the engine starts for 5 seconds and stalls. I did a tune up, plugs cap rotor and wires because they had standard bosch plugs and one wire fell apart. The exact same thing happenens, it starts for 5 seconds and stalls. I put a fuel pump & filter in it about 8 months ago and and put another fuel filter in today, just in case. The fuel pump is working and I have fuel in the rails. I used a chiltons manual to check the computer coil ignition module and distributor signal, everything passed. I am at witts end!!!!

Re: runs for 5 seconds!
You should probably determine whether the fuel delivery system stops or the ignition system stops - Or both. The fuel system receives its trigger signals from the Opti, just like the ignition system.

what is the fuel pressure ? does it hold fuel pressure key on engine off ? your vehicle has an opti distributor this distributor works great until oil/moisture and bad plug wires destroy it... when you replaced the opti cap what did you find in there ? |

Re: runs for 5 seconds!
As far as fuel, key on engine off I have what appears to be full pressure at the schrader valve but I do not have a gauge. The opti spark was clean and dry under the cap (I was hoping for some wetness). I was by myself without a remote starter so I set up a plug and wire grounded with the best view I could get, I believe I saw the plug fire 4 or 5 times and I think it got less and less. Does the pick up go bad in the opti spark and is there any way to test off car?

remove the coil and inspect and clean or replace any damaged componets this is a common issue... you must use a pressure guage ! I think on your 94 the press is around the 45 psi,,,but it should hold within 3-5psi for 15 min...key on engine off... |
