Trans shifting late

What would cause the trans to shift late under low throttle on a 98 transport. It shifts like it would if you were accelerating fast. It lets the engine wind out before shifting. It doesn't shift unusually hard just late.

Mileage?

The tranny fluid level is where it's supposed to be? What color is it?

Not knowing your expertise, I have to ask if you followed the correct procedure stamped on the dipstick?

When was the last tranny fluid and filter replaced?

Millage: 170,000
Fluid level is correct
Fluid and filter were changed about 1,000 miles ago when I felt it was starting to shift late but it wasn't as bad as it is now. When I changed the fluid it was dark compared to the new fluid but there were no shavings in the pan. The fluid and filter were changed previously at around 100,000.

The vacuum modulator is connected to the engine vacuum manifold to rapidly respond to changes in engine loading, and has an important effect on shift quality.

It's located on the radiator side of the tranny. (4T60-E transaxles)

There may well be another component causing the fault but I'm afraid that's out of my depth.

Hopefully a quaified tech will see your problem and can help.

Yea changed the vacuum modulator and checked the vacuum lines but that didn't change anything. Took it to a trans place and they said trans is slipping and needs to be rebuilt. It just doesn't feel like it is slipping to me, only it seems like it waits too long to shift. They may be right anyway considering the color of the fluid when I changed it. I thought I would see remnants of the clutches in the pan if they were slipping.

Have you tried different places for different opinions during test drives?
