Quality of AntiFreeze

Hi,

I'm not sure where to put this, couldn't find an Engine or Radiator thread or anything like that.

Anyways, I need to top off my radiator fluid/anti freeze, my manual recommends the "Toyota Super Long Life Antifreeze" (the pink stuff). I am just wondering whether there is a generic/name brand equilvant in terms of quality/compatibility.

Also, how important is the quality of antifreeze? I know high quality engine oil is important, but I'm not sure about the importance of quality anti-freeze.

Thanks!

Re: Quality of AntiFreeze

Also, how big is a typical antifreeze holding tank?

I may be moving soon, so I don't want extra fluid that I may have to throw away. I have the option of going to the Toyota dealer and top off there, at $21/gallon compared to like $12 in the store. I am really low on fluid tho, well below the "Min" line. So if I topped off, would there still be some left over from a 1 gallon bottle? Or should I go to the dealer and get the recommended brand (which of course, is Toyota obviously) and only pay for what I need and not have to deal with unused antifreeze.

Thanks!

Re: Quality of AntiFreeze

Your best bet to keep from contaminating the coolant you already have in your car is to get some from the dealership. Most of the time you have to mix it 50/50 with water.
