Another ticky engine question + CEL
I just bought a 2000 Rodeo with a pretty loud tick. This is my 5th Rodeo, and they all have had ticks at some point, but this one is pretty loud. I assumed it was the timing belt tensioner, but before I order the $185 part from Seattle I want to make sure that's what it is. It's a constant tick, that is louder with acceleration and is loudest at idle and acceleration. Once I take my foot off the gas it fades to quiet enough that the heater blower noise covers it, but it never goes away. I also have a CEL on.

There are a couple of videos in the link. It could also be a spun rod bearing (typically happens on the +98 due to low oil).

Re: Another ticky engine question + CEL
Thank you for the link! My tick definitely sounds like the third video: lifter tick.

Re: Another ticky engine question + CEL
The +98 isuzu had hydrolic nonadjustable lifters. Lifter tick was common on the 93-97 3.2L...
you may have dirty lifters and a 1/2 can of sea foam may help out.

Re: Another ticky engine question + CEL
Super, I picked up some Seafoam tonight. Hopefully that and an oil change will do the trick.

Re: Another ticky engine question + CEL
Ok, so hubby did an oil change, ran some SeaFoam and changed out the t-belt tensioner, but to no avail--the tick is just as loud as before.
What's next? Valves? This engine only has 67K on it... Last edited by an_aurora; 04-02-2010 at 08:24 PM. |
