97 Burb No power steering

Just wondering what else I could easily check before replacing my power steering pump. Was going down the road and poof no power steering. Ive replaced a few power steering pumps in my day and never had one go without a) locking up or b)making some type of noise letting me know its getting worn out. This one did not do any of these things just all of the sudden no power steering. Any help would be appreciated thanks

I SEEN THIS BEFORE ! I looked at the metal and something didn't look right ...So I did an internet search , took a bit to find the answer..seems that GM contracted to have these parts made by some company..they used scrap steel...

Re: 97 Burb No power steering

I've got a '97 GMC Suburban and figure it's pretty much the same as yours. 177,700 miles and I just did the replacement of the old PS unit and found there's a kit to replace the silly electronic sensor that makes the power steering feel tighter at highway speeds.
It's just a bypass pipe. I'd recommend replacing that sensor while you have it apart. We tried desperately to get the old sensor to index correctly with the new pump, no matter how we screwed it in it would always be in a position that would not allow the pump to mount correctly . It kept hitting the motor mount. I ended up having to replace it. Kit was like $ 70.00 from the dealer.
Hope this helps.

Re: 97 Burb No power steering

assume the belt is still good?

You make no mention of any noises or unusual events, other than all of a sudden no PS.
