Problem with Illustrator

Alright, just need a quick question answered, How do you get it so it don't snap to things? Like I am having problems with my lines keep trying to snap to the artboard and everything, even without the artboard and everything being there. It keeps driving me nuts, Any help would be appreciated, and once you answer, I can delete the thread if you guys think i should.

Go to the top menu bar in VIEW and untick SNAP TO GRID. If you like you can tick SNAP TO POINT ok. That should solve your problem.

Good on ya pal for using illustrator. ANYBODY can manipulate a photograph but it takes skill and patience to DRAW the suckers.

i work almost exclusively in illustrator these days (sometimes finish in photoshop) and have been drawing a series of cars.

below are some thumbnails of just a couple of them. each is the size of a movie poster and take 20-30 hours to draw. they usually end up at around 80 layers and finished illustration of 100-300mb @ 300dpi.

if folks on this forum are intersested i'll post more cars at 800x600 size instead of thumbs.

well see i have all the SNAP TO... things un-marked, it only snaps around that damn border, and I tried looking in help, it doesn't say anything about it.

Also, do you draw those from scratch? or use another pic to get the outline and shit? Because I have to trace to get the outline, I can't draw for shit, but it still takes time and patience, big time. I finally got the outline done on my RX7 but still got a ways to go.

er.... lemme get this straight. your shapes and lines are snapping to the page border right? even when it's hidden. am i right? all other stuff in the center of the page doesn't snap right?

i havent seen this before but i'm sure its simple. lemme have a look at my illustrator and i'll get back to you.

as for the drawings.... sometimes i blutack (stick) a photo mt my monitor and draw, but i started by tracing an outline from a photo exactly as you did with the RX7. keep going dude it looks great already and will look better as you progress.. lookin' good!!!!

Go to the "View" menu, turn off "Smart Guides". That'll take care of the edge thing, but the rest of your smart guides won't work. In the future, to avoid this problem you need to make a much larger artboard so you don't run into the edges.

BTW, yellowdoor, if I ever bring in the 350Z I drew in Illustrator (learning to use Gradient Mesh) I'll have to show that to you.
