2003 Explorer, Transmission Question

I was recently involved in an accident that sent into an embankment (front end first), over it and then down about 10-12 feet. I was yanked out, but they could not shift the vehicle into neutral. Vehicle is repaired, however, I am now having transmission problems. When shifting into reverse, it is slow in responding. Going forward it was fine until the OD light came one. When it came on, the vehicle would not shift smoothly into second. Engine would rev, I would let off the gas to pause then it would shift. It did this a few time, and would reset it self, but then again the OD light would come on. Now the OD light is not coming on, but the check engine light is coming on and now I always have to let off the gas, a breif pause to allow it to shift. Now, I was told that the solonoid is going and that probably the bands too. Being that they are a wear part, the Insurance Co said they will not pay for that. My response was the vehicle did not shift this way till after the accident. Could the accident cause a premature weakening or rupture of integrity of solonoid and or bands?
