Electric Controlled Q-jet Rochester carb 87

Im going to have a local shop do a rebuild on my carb but i am missing a 'a/c solenoid'. Is this solenoid important? Im sure they can add a new one but is it needed? I do run the a/c.

I would assume that this is what kicks the RPM up a few notches when you turn the AC on. Its not needed but i'm sure its something you could install yourself after the rebuild if you wanted to. I'm pretty sure my AC solinoid wasnt working last summer and sometimes i had to push on the gas at a stop light to keep it from stalling (my idle is a little low anyway but that helps save a little gas )

If you live in phoenix , AZ you will need the idle solenoid...when the a/c is on and its 110deg f you want a much higher idle to keep you and the engine cool...up north its no big deal to have this solenoid...gets to 100 deg every 10 yrs...

this part is prone to failure as it eventually begins to stick...

If you are willing to venture out to a junk yard like Pick-A-Part in Phoenix or Mesa you can pick up a carb for cheap with an a/c solenoid and try that out (it's aka an ISC motor or servo).

I have a spare one if you are interested PM me (I need to test it still though).

Driven in severe weather most of the year (Arizona 100+ degrees during summer heat or in wet weather especially in harsh monsoons). About 30/70 highway/city driving.

When rebuilding the Q-Jet carb, it is very important that the throttle shaft be inspected for wear and a bushing installed if there is any play in the throttle shaft to prevent a possible vacuum leak around the shaft causing driveability issues.

I just had mine rebuilt by SMI in Huntington beach Ca and the car runs much better now. They also install different secondary metering rods which gave a noticeable increase in WOT power.
