Question 99 taurus radio/climate control problem

the radio/climate control unit is flaky. Defrost always on, cannot control fan speed or temp. radio sometimes works, if working cannot change volume or station. radio works when key is turned to on, but not when engine is started, then the next time you start the engine the radio will play but still can't adjust. then the next time you start engine, radio doesn't work at all. Our mechanic replaced radio/climate unit but still has the same problem!?!? Also replaced ignition switch - no change in flakiness. What else could be the problem.

Re: 99 taurus radio/climate control problem

Welcome to the forum!

Does your Taurus have the manual (knob) climate control or the electronic climate control?

You might search the forum for "Transmission Range Sensor" and see if others have had similar symptoms that were fixed by a new TRS. Seems to be a pretty common part for goofy electrical gremlins.

Re: 99 taurus radio/climate control problem

There are no knobs so I assume it is the electronic control. It is a very strange problem. Our local mechanic tells us to take it to a Ford dealer. I might mention the Trans. Range sensor to him. If there is anything else it could be, I would love to hear it...
