91 APV Van instrument cluster

Now that I've got the heater situation under control in this beast another problem arises.

I notice the temp guage is not functioning accurately and the gas guage swings widely when braking or accelerating.

Is there a voltage regulator for the instruments, bad ground or other wiring problem? I see nothing left disconnected yet but I will have to check once again. I know my little Ford 1/4 ton has a slosh module to even out fuel tank fluctations. GM use the same thing? But would that also affect the temp guage? One wouldn't expect so.

Anyone got a link to wiring diagrams for the instruments?

Thanks

QUIck reply: lots of diagrams here: browse through www.avigex.ca/xport scroll to instrument panel. also look for brake light circuit.
Ground/supply problems have been reported quite often, some occurring at splices under the front floor carpet. TRy to find a ground wire and splice a new ground connection to a solid engine post.
WHen you say the temp gauge is not accurate, what do you mean?
Is your heating problem solved ?
Aboput what you found with the pc board solder problem, this is also common with the wiper control board, located in the wiper motor unit.

Re: 91 APV Van instrument cluster

Thanks for the link for all the diagrams. Saved many to disk. I've checked the wiring again and see no problem with the grounds to the instrument cluster. I was able to find a diagram of the cluster at our local parts distributor. They have access to Mitchells. Also traced the printed circuit with the aid of this diagram. There is one small difference on this cluster from the diagram but it is not related to this curious problem I'm experiencing. If someone can instruct I will post a copy of the diagram for use by others.

You can either host the diagram on a website like photobucket then post the link, or e-mail it to me at [email protected] and I will host it then provide the link. I also have the complete original GM Transport service manual and I will scan other pages as needed...MOst is exactly similar with the apv except cosmetic variations like instrument panel and trim

Emailed scanned drawings.

I also own a 95 3.8L which I reconditioned two years ago. Used this forum at that time too. Great place.

Thanks
