3.4 Engine Knock

just did IMG job on 2001 venture 3.4.....had to put a helicoil in one the valve spring bolt holes in front head.....the engine is now knocking while running...pulled the front valve cover and retightend the lifter bolts, still knocks...i know i did not mix up the rods or drop anything in engine...is it possible to break valve spring or make lifter stick by over torque..spring does not appear broken...any thoughts would be extremely appreciated....thanks...jim

Re: 3.4 Engine Knock

Could be a collapsed lifter..... Did you change the oil after everything was apart.

Re: 3.4 Engine Knock

sure did, i never let it run for more than probably 30 seconds at a time because of the knocking...i did this four or five times..figured oil should have made it up by than...don't want to do any more damage....how long should it run to get normal after the IMG repair...i can understand some slight knocking/ticking,rough idle, etc. on first start up.this is a loud knock....

Re: 3.4 Engine Knock

Is it a bottom-end knock or lifter noise?...Also, what do you mean by "valve spring bolt holes"...was it a rocker arm stud???

Re: 3.4 Engine Knock

If it is a loud constant knock, it could be a rod, even if it is sounding like it is top end the piston could be striking the head because the Rod bearing is toast (several out really sounds badass untill the engine siezes, ask me how I know!!!!)
