1992 transport no spark

1992 3.8 l no spark i changed the coils and the plate and still not getting spark. i got codes 17 18 and 42. now i'm not really good at figuring out what the combination of the 3 codes may cause this. if anyone can lead me in some direction please help. i also have a 1994 3.8 transport that runs fine but the trans is blown so i can pull parts off of it to trouble shoot. thank you

Re: 1992 transport no spark

These codes together will usaly lead tot he Crank sensor, but you will not be able to use the 94 Crank sensor on the 92... The 93-08 3800's used a set it and forget it crank sensor... The 92's are adjustable....

Re: 1992 transport no spark

ok i changed the crank and cam sensor still no spark. oh thanks for saving me time by letting me know that the 2 different year vans didn't have the same crank sensor. i am getting around 3 ac volts from the crank sensor. at this point im thinking a wire maybe shorting out some where.

Re: 1992 transport no spark

Did the problem develop all of a sudden of did you have some signs before it went dead? WHen these three codes come altogether at once, all relating to same area, usually suspect a single problem that reflects on these. Check supply voltage to sensors; since the PCM is able to recognize problems, this one is probably correctly fed with 12v. Some weird problems have been traced to the ignition switch/wiring in the past. Basic first....
The 3 volt from crank sensor is OK but did you take that measurement before or after the ignition module? In my case, I did not have voltage after the ignition odule, but I had the voltage ahead . IN my case, the ignition module was shot, I know you switched yours, but check if you have 12v supply and ground to the ignition module: this has also been reported a problem in the past.

Thumbs up Re: 1992 transport no spark problem solved :)

the problem ended up being a faulty ground wire in the wiring harness between the coils and crank/cam sensor. replaced wiring harness all good now. thank you guys so much for all the help.
