88 cutlass shifting problems?

my friend has a 88 ciera with the 2.5l and recently i put a radiator in for him and his transmission lines are connected on the drivers side and i went to the junkyard and got one out of a newer cutlass and the trans. lines were on the passenger side and so i installed this one and got the lines to run to the passenger side and after all of that i had taken the car and drove it (giving it gas and flooring it) to see how it shifted and it shifted great. now just 3 days later the car doesn't shift right. the car will stay in 1st gear until 30mph and then take some time to get out of 2nd. i took the car on the highway and doesn't seem to go into 4th.(it is snowing today so i didn't go over 65) checked fluid and it seems good. fluid is moving though cooler good.

now when the car wont shift out of 1st i move shifter into 2nd then drive then it will shift. if i was in 1st at around 20mph i would move shifter all the way to 1st and through 2nd to drive it would not change. hope this is enough information.

if anyone can help that would be great.

Make sure the vacuum is reaching the modulator? I believe this trans has one.
