Unhappy Brakes lock and car jerks when accelerating!!

I drive a '97 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6. When I stop at a stop sign or a red light, especially from higher speeds... as I go to apply the brakes, as soon as the speed shifts below 10mph I feel (well what I'm think is) the brakes lock. Then when I go to accelerate, my car will jerk forward, sometimes violently. This happens on and off and but is happening more frequently now. I changed the cam synchro after it was diagnosed the problem, however it's still happening. I kind of don't want to spend anymore or too much money by taking it in again. Please! Any input on my situation will gladly be appreciated!!

Re: Brakes lock and car jerks when accelerating!!

Welcome to the forum!

What makes you suspect the brakes are locking? If they locked at 10 mph, even if just one wheel, you should get an audible squeal or chirp as the tire skids. I suspect maybe your torque converter is not unlocking when it should, possibly due to something as simple as a speed sensor in the transmission.

What you might try is carefully shifting to neutral when approaching a stop from the higher speeds and see if the issue still occurs. If it does, then looking more at the brakes is warranted. If it doesn't happen, then you're probably looking at something in the transmission system, hopefully just a speed sensor.

Something locks as a decelerate right past 10mph on the speedometer... not sure if it's the brakes, kind of just assumed. But, I will try the neutral thing tomorrow on my way to school to find out! Thanks so far!
