Re: 2001 monte carlo battery drains

wish it was that easy. nothing is apparently on (motor, fan, light, etc.), but drain is happening. so far, only way to not lose starting power is to disconnect negative battery cable every park time.

How old is your battery?
The electric fuel pump, control modules, bells, and whistles can demand alot of power.
Maybe your battery isn't holding a charge like it once did.

Re: 2001 monte carlo battery drains

battery 3.5 yrs old checks out ok on test. when turn off car and put amp meter to battery cable see 2.1 amps flow (too high - I think normal is 0.2 amps to keep all memory, etc). I will start pulling fuses to try and pin point area. 3 years ago same thing ad took dealer four days to find faulty radio amplifier (is this common on these models?) and replacement fixed it. don't see much chatter on amplifier issue so not sure if I'm just alone on this one.

Isolate the fuse to the Radio amp for a few days.

Re: 2001 monte carlo battery drains

Removed radio fuse and disconnected Amplifier. That is the problem!! The amp draw is down to 0.04 amps, normal. Will drive without radio, since new Amplifier cost $250.00 and mileage over 100,000, it does not pay to repair.
