Maybe Purchasing Fiero

Hey everyone, I am going to look at a Fiero I found online this Monday. It's going to be my first car so I'm not really sure what to look for when I see it. Any tips?
He is asking $5000 CDN ($4672USD) and it has 172xxx KM on it. Here's the description he gives in the ad:

Does this sound reasonable?

Kinda pricey... '86s generally go in the $2,500 range when NICE. The '88 is the only one with "big" pricing, as it is unique. Overall, good cars and very safe in a "crash". GTs are more desired for looks, but there are now real "performance" mods to it over the other V6 models. They ALL use the same 2.8 engines.

They are great cars. I have a 87gt. the price is a little steep but its all supply and demand. The car looks clean. When you check it out open the trunk and pull the carpet back in the corners. If there is any rust that is a good indicator of more rust. The fiero is a fun car to drive. Im 18 and still love the car and ive had it for 2 years. www.fiero.nl has TONS of info.

I agree w/ it being a little pricey. If you haven't checked it out check a few places. look in the front ps corner of the engine bay just below the battery. Make sure that there is no rust there. That is one of the main parts of the car that rusts. Totally sucks. Also try to look down the front bumper and see if there is any hidden damage. If they replace the front bumper you may not notice the problems.

I've been looking at those along with Mits 3000's for a project car. I think either would be great to convert to electric. Would be a great project for you......

The weight would make it a good candidate for an electric car. If that's what you want of course. I've always thought of electric cars as something you would want a little more boxy. In a fiero you get a good amt of attention from ppl that want to race you so i would keep that in mind. Also if you are going to make it into an electric car i would look at one of the non GT versions. They are cheaper and you can prob find one w/ a busted engine for well under 1k.

I currently don't have time for any projects sadly. I did just get ahold of an old ford ranger for 100 that needs a little attention. Pickups always come in handy and since it already runs I won't be neglecting it. I do miss my fiero and will get another one one day.
