Problems accelerating

I'm having a hard time figuring this out. Here's the problem. During warm weather the car seems fine. When it gets cold (about 30 or lower) the car stumbles during normal acceleration. It's hard to explain. Doesn't seem to be missing seems it's being deprived of fuel/air but i'm not certain. At highway speeds (55 to 75) it has a hard time maintaning a certain speed without stumbling, sometimes "jerking" pretty hard. It's wierd because it did this at the end of last winter but stopped when it got warmer and has been fine all year untill now. Thought MAF sensor but i was told this car has no MAF sensor. Someone also said something about tranny solenoid? Anything would help. Thanks. 2.2 sohc auto

Re: Problems accelerating

There was never a 2.2L SOHC engine in the J-bodies....For SOHC engines, there was a 2.0 and a 2.3, for 2.2s there was a DOHC and an OVH. What year is it?

I'd start by checking that the IAT and ECT sensors are reading accurately. You'll need a scan tool for this. Also check the fuel pressure.

Re: Problems accelerating

Ohv sorry It's a 1999 sunfire. I will check those sensors thanks. Something I noticed though is when it's doing this you can be at a stop light and rev the engine and it revs fine. It's only when it's accelerating through the gears or trying to maintain a constant speed.

Arrow Re: Problems accelerating

I have a 99 cav 2.2l with the same problem.

If anyone is still helping with this thread it sure would help me.

I ran out of gas a few weeks ago, so I used and STP fuel treatment. Now the car seems to be struggling to get gas. But what is wierd is if I push the clutch in and rev the engine, it revs just fine.

I was thinking maybe my fuel pump is going out, or my fuel filter is plugged.

Please any help would be great!
