Beyond Vibration

Not so simple as an unbalanced tire. Left front wheel/tire starts shaking at about 35 mph, worsens with increase in speed up to 52 mph then quits shaking. Some residual (though minor) vibration after that. Had tire balanced already at a good shop so I don't think that's it.
Struts are due for replacement - could that be part of the problem? I've had the thing on a lift and don't see anything indicative of a ball joint or an a-frame bushing, BUT, is it possible/probable that my problem is one or more of the latter problems combined beyond the tire issue? (and yes, I do believe it's possible for the problem to still rest with the tire - they're BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's - 15x10.5s and I've never had one bit of trouble with them - have approximately 35-40,000 miles on them.
Thoughts?.....................................:run around:

Re: Beyond Vibration

Worn ball joints or struts can magnify the shaking by not dampening the shake through the "resonance" speeds. If your truck has a steering damper shock that is old it can also cause shaking...also check the tie rod ball joints. Check a repair manual for the procedure for testing the ball joints.

Re: Beyond Vibration

Was your drive shaft removed at any time ?? If it wasn't reinstalled right it could be not balanced. I had my rear drive shaft off and on 3 times before I got it right, you will notice a square slab of steel on your drive shaft and if the drive shaft is not on as it was from the factory it will throw it out of balance. I own a 94 4runner for over 10 yrs now been there done that kinda thing, if nothing else is working for you give it a try, it worked for me, although I wasn't the one who originally took the drive shaft off lol. As long as it fixes it thats what counts.
