Sounds like a possible vacuum leak. Have you checked for any loose, broken, or cracked hoses, especially the PCV one?

hi im back, looked at vac lines didn't see any problems but has one comeing off pvc line to the under side of the van. i removed it, back fire stopped thank goodness! but still wont go. engine dies when accelerater is pushed. idle is irratic now. repaired the check engine lite getting code 36. adjusted timing till engine will build rpms , i get engine kick back at start, have to readjust timing to start engine.stalls at idle now too. can get high rpms when not in gear sometimes. is there any hope?

Code 36? These vans don't have a code 36, are you sure you're reading the code correctly?

How is your fuel pressure, have you tested it?

You said you put in a new cap/rotor/wires; did you put in new plugs? Old plugs can cause some of the issues you mentioned. How about the air filter?

Re: need help 1990 ram 350

hello, have an update: replaces fuel filter running great. plenty of power and acceleration. but have been here b4 time will tell if the problem is fixed. as for the codes i checked 3 times it say 36. i know this model dont have code 36. so not sure whats up with that. but as long as its running good im not worried about it.going to see how it runs tomarrow and then start on little projects ex: dimmer switch, radio, cosmetic. i hope this works been messing with it for 2 months, have 4 kids and hard to get around in my nissan king cab. thanks for your help. guess i just over looked the basics. thanks again
