ABS problems now?

The last few weeks I've noticed sounds coming from my ABS system when there really shouldn't be. When first starting out with the van the ABS valving stuff, that is located I believe on the firewall in front of the driver, starts clicking like it does when it's pulsing the brakes in slippery conditions. But that's pretty much all it was doing. If it was at night you would also notice the lights dimming like what ever it's doing is drawing some amps. Now in the last few days it's doing the clicking thing and both the ABS and brake lights come on and stay on. Does not do it every time and sometime you can shut it off then restart and nothing happens. No lights no nothing. The brakes are working fine through all this. But the ABS is likely not working. And we have not gotten any snow lately so the roads are dry. Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks.

Re: ABS problems now?

Your ABS module is on its way out I would suspect...... Might get the codes pulled on the module to see what it says. BTW what year is your rig?

It's a 1998 with 150,000 miles. Do you know what this will cost to fix? Thanks

Re: ABS problems now?

I don't know if this is something you want to do, but with my son's Blazer when the ABS went out we just unplugged it and it was just a vehicle with regular brakes.

Re: ABS problems now?

That is what I initially plan to do later today. We did the same on my daughters 96 Monte. I never liked ABS anyway. Having driven all kinds of vehicles without ABS, and learning very good winter driving skills, ABS kinda scares me when the roads get slippery.

Doing some research on this I really don't find anyone that sells replacement modules for ABS. And the manuals say to bring it to an authorized repair shop. Sounds like a very expensive adventure. Or should I say "venture"?

LOL. Same with me I prefer the old pump the brakes as fast as you can when braking on ice or other slippery conditions, sometimes the ABS actuates when you really don't want it to, I never liked that.

Re: ABS problems now?

So on this vehicle can I simply unplug all the connectors on the control module?
