Talking 2008 Escape

Just got an escape, used obviously - i really like the styling, i downsized from a 2008 gmc yukon.

I didnt notice when i got it, but i am somewhat dissapointed that the rear brakes are drums! this seems so cheap, so weird. I dont know much about cars, but i thought rear drums were almost non existent. I havent dealt with drums since the mid 90's.

Anywho - thinking of getting aftermarket wheels, will there be a problem with the wheel sensors? I understand the escape wheel sensors are located on the wheel as oposed as on the tire valve.

Also, i noticed some noice in the rear suspension, such as when i press on it from the rear, it squeaks, almost as if it needs oiling. Ride feels very stiff, but based on what i read this seems to be the norm with the escapes. Also i notice the escape seems to be a bit raised from the rear, as it is in a slope. Could this be sign of needed replacing of shocks and/or struts.

Thanks folks.

Mike

Re: 2008 Escape

the ride is rough because of the short wheel base. check your ford dealer about the tire air sensor when changing to aftermarket. The tire air sensor is for people that are too lazy to look and check their wheels inflation on a regular basis.
for the raised rear, think its the way its been designed, so you dont have far to bend over.
Drum breaks. I remove the cover to blow it out every 6 months to remove brake dust, and clean the area. Asbestos!
