Abs

Is there a way to eliminate abs on the 98 windstar 3.8? I do not want to replace the Electronic module, it is comming up with the internal relay fault. I thought about putting a non abs master in it, but if there is a way to disengage the abs I would rather do that.

Re: Abs

If the ABS light is lit, the ABS is disabled.
I am guessing, if you are coming up with a fault, that the ABS light is lit?

no actual abs light. when the car slows down almost to a stop the abs kicks in for a second like when sliding on ice. I put the scanner on it and it had the internal relay fault, I cleared it and it came back. I have repacked and adjusted the rear bearings, checked the rings and all teeth are there. sensors look ok. I am not comming up with any specific wheel trouble codes. All four tire speeds are reading the same. I want to find a way just to disable the abs from kicking in or eliminate it all together. All the ABS fuses and relays are linked with other functions on the van or are internal. I was just going to unplug the actual abs unit and see if that has any effects.

In my '96, there is a large fuse in the box under the hood that powers the ABS module. I was having similar problems several years ago and pulled the fuse. It has disabled the ABS function of which I am not a big fan. The only downside is that the ABS dash light is now on all the time, but I have gotten used to it.

I pulled the fuse and relays but they all effected other systems on the car. I just went ahead and unplugged the abs unit itself and it completely disabled the abs. Stops great now.
