Gas gauge flucuation 03 gp gt

Have 2003 grand prix gt with a 3800 liter engine fuel injected
when the tank gets down around halfway the gauge starts to jump around will go slowly to full then goes back down to emptie then back to what I figure there should be in there and then climbs back up to full.

it is also starting wrong I some times have to press the gas pedal a little for it to start. have replaced the plugs and wires but still every once in a while I have to start it with a little on thde gas pedal

Is the starting problem related to the fuel gauge problem or are they seperate issues
otherwise the car still drives and operates like a dream

The fuel level sensor is attached to the fuel pump module, but it is replaceable without changing the whole pump. The fuel level sensor is a common issue on these cars and can be changed without dropping the fuel tank through an access panel in the trunk.

The starting issue could be fuel pressure or sensor related. Do you have a check engine/service engine soon light lit on the dash? If so, have car scanned and post the codes. If not, you could have borderline fuel pressure due to a faulty pump or pressure regulator, or a bad MAF sensor, IAC valve or other emissions sensor causing the hard start.

clean out the carbon on your throttle body and get some MAF cleaners and clean off the maf and iac sensors. I would try this first since all you have to pay for is a can of throttle body cleaner and maf cleaner- about $10. These will all cause a hard start.
