Water Pump @106k
The water pump just stopped pumping and leaking at 106k mi. I am just wondering when others are finding that their water pumps fail?
Yes, I will be doing the Timing Belt too, while I am in there. It looks like the Timing Belt has never been done before. What is the scheduled interval for the timing belts? The 1.0L is a non-interference engine, I hope? Well gotta get busy before the BIG flash flooding rains get here.

Re: Water Pump @106k
Non Interference, although I find that the cessation of operation interferes with my life in a big, big way. Newer timing belts (I think 95 is when they changed) are rated for 90K miles, the old ones were 60K. I'd say 100K is about average for a water pump, but it varies drastically, hard to name an exact number. The key point is that it's almost the exact same job to replace the water pump as it is the timing belt, to do one without the other is folly.

The timing and alternator belts also cost about the same. Tho the alternator belt is grossly cracked and definitely needs replacing. I think the hardest part so far was getting that blasted front wheel OFF.

Re: Water Pump @106k
Nicely done. Your alternator belt isn't tight enough though. How do I know? No Metro has ever had it's alternator belt truly tight enough. They usually require a bit of a tweak after 100 miles on a new belt.
