401/420 code on 2000 Lincoln LS
Hi, I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V6 that is showing codes 401/420. The codes were reset and the catalytic code has not come back on but the EGR code is back and engine light is back on.
Tested the valve for pressure and it looked good but the car would not idle down when I plugged it. Replaced the EGR sensor. I'm new to this and was wondering if I should follow the same directions for this problem on a Ford Taurus? Could not find a thread with Lincoln LS with the same code. If the engine isn't bogging down when I plug up the valve should I look for leaks in the system? Thanks for any help you can offer. |

Re: 401/420 code on 2000 Lincoln LS
Okay, I just found out what was going on. So I will post this for future reference, if anyone else comes across this problem.
I took off the intake manifold and there was a ton of black crud where the EGR valve goes into the intake. Cleaned it out, blew through the valve to clear any leftover debris, reset codes, drove and, voila! no code!! Hope this will save someone some money/time on buying a new EGR valve and/or EGR valve sensor. |

If your P0420 come's back, suspect the catalytic converter on bank 1.
