Oddball mirror connectors

I am trying to replace my passenger side power mirror. I ordered and received a new mirror, but the connectors don't match. They are supposed to, even by VIN, but they don't. I got a matching door in case it's cheaper than taking the dent out of mine. It matches the new mirror connections....BUT...my harness connector is still different.

New mirror = male 4 blade connector.
New door = female 4 blade connector.

MY DOOR: male 4 PIN connector.

GM dealership part = male 8 pin connector? P/N 15764758. It may not be the 8 pin, but it IS male. Obviously, two male connectors don't go together...unless you're in San Francisco.

WHAT THE HECK DO I HAVE IN MY DOOR???

1996 K1500 LT Suburban. Mirrors are not heated. Last 8 of VIN = TJ354968

Re: Oddball mirror connectors

I would go to the junk yards and fine the ones that fit the 4 plug for the new mirror and then the 4 plug that fits what you have in your door and cut the plugs with about 6 - 8" of wire lead and splice those 2 plugs together then you basically made yourself a plug - n - play adapter.

As far as what you have, I have no clue.

Red face Re: Oddball mirror connectors

OK...this is sooooo dumb!

I kept looking at all the connectors and knew it just didn't make sense. I pulled the connector up from the driver side door on my vehicle and it matched the new door and the new mirror.

HMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

I looked closely at the connection that was INSIDE the broken mirror that was on the junkyard (new) door. I pulled it apart and VOILA! That inside connector is the same as the one in the driver door of my truck. SOOoooooooooo! That means the connector I'm seeing at the end of the wiring coming out of my passenger door is really the connector that was inside the destroyed mirror.

The only problem now is that I can't get the disconnected wiring to pull up from the inside of the door far enough to take the section off that normally goes from the inside of the mirror to the door wiring harness. It must be hung up on something and I really don't want to pull the door panel if I can help it.

So we learned a lesson about the wiring and connections...but I still can't figure out how the connectors from the mirror got back through the very small hole in the mirror mounting bracket.

Gremlins, I guess

Re: Oddball mirror connectors

remove the door panel . this is no big deal...make the connections to the mirror ...then clean and lube the window / lock mechanisms...check for any wire chaffing and re-install...

Actually, a very good idea since the driver door components needed lubrication badly.

Now....on to the next "issue".
