ever had this elec problem

A friend asked me to post this. He has a 2002, F250,100000miles. Alittle while the gauges went dead, eventually truck ran to sluggish to run and died, got a jump start and got it home. Suggestion made to get new battery and it fixed the problem....for a while. Same thing happened again, gauges went dead, sluggishness returned needed to eventually get it jump started to get home, this time the alternator was rebuilt and good for a short time. Gauges went dead, really sluggish to the point he got it home just bearly. Curiously, his wife went out the next day unknowing there has been problems, and starts it right up moves it out of her way without a problem. Short of letting her drive it all the time , any suggestions? I told him to at least clean off the hot wire where it connects to the starter.

Re: ever had this elec problem

I would try a voltage drop on the battery cables and make sure they are clean/tight.

I also would check and clean the battery cable connections , put a meter on the battery while running to see that the alternator is charging it up (14 volts), and also redo some of your engine grounds. A good start at least to fixing this.

I think the alternators diodes are going. Is the behavior more night time than daytime? Real hard on the battery, repeatedly dragging it down to flatline. The ECU could do w/o it too! Computers don't handle undercurrent well. It may even reset the KAM or worse.
