Unhappy 2001 Sentra service engine soon light is on

Hi,

I just bought a 2001 Nissan Sentra. The car has only 47,000 miles on it as it has been unused and sitting for the past 5 years. Plugs were changed along with oil and filter, air filter, and new hoses were put in. After driving the car for a few minutes the service engine light came on. We took the car to an automobile repair shop where they ran diagnostics and than to a Nissan Dealer who also ran diagnostics and both places said that they can't find anything wrong with the car. Is it possible that after driving 400 or 500 miles the light will reset? If not, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you,

Vinnie

Re: 2001 Sentra service engine soon light is on

did they get dtc, run diagnostics on those dtc and confirm system was operating trouble free now? If so what were the dtc.

Or did they not get any dtc?

What I say to all new nissan owners...never ever use a non nissan air filter element.

Hi,

The failure code was P1165. It ended up being a broken wire going to the
Swirl Control Valve Control Vacuum Check Switch

Re: 2001 Sentra service engine soon light is on

I have a 2002,Nissan Sentra GXE and it's an automatic and it has 1.8 liter engine. I noticed that the car has been running bad and kind of rough. I went to auto zone and the man ran the codes on it and he said the code is a PO430 code and the code is comming up as a catalic convertic problem. the engine stays on all of the time. when Iam just stoped at a red light or a stop sign it just starts to quiver and rattle alot. while Iam driving it doesn't quiver. could anyone help me to figure this out

For the most part, no, you cannot. When you reset the SES / CEL, you also reset the engine monitors, such as, o2 sensors, catalytic converter, evap, etc. The inspection machine looks for incomplete engine monitors and can be a cause of a failed inspection.
