Re: engine swap ?
Well, I believe the bolt pattern is the same. However... The electronics and fuel systems are completely different. The mounting points may also be different. It wouldn't be a "trivial" exercise to swap them. You might be better off finding another 2.4.
While I'm no "expert" regarding the cars, I do know the engines. Maybe another will come along with more specific info. Jim |

Re: engine swap ?
Welcome to AF amyk2300 !
I would agree with MrPbody, to much trouble to swap. Quite a few upgrades in the electronic areas. But it can be done, just time and money. MrPbody what do you think about the differances between the two engines ? Oh, something odd about the 99+ grand ams, is thier's already a mount on the inside firewall for a clutch pedal, even in the auto trans models. ![]() Also used 2.4's are plentiful.

Re: engine swap ?
x2 not a very hard used engine to find, and you can find them fairly cheap

Re: engine swap ?
The difference? No comparison. The 2.2 is an OHV "econo-motor" designed for good low-speed performance and longevity, and is actually pretty good for that as long as proper mainatainence is done to the car. Cooling systems are paramount. We probably do two "pressure test and surface" jobs for a 2.0 or 2.2 each month. This is not the "Eco-Tech" 2.2 being discussed, an entirely different animal... I had a '94 Cavelier with 2.2 in it, got 35 MPG down the highway, and "ample" power. Went over 200K before it blew a spark plug out of it... We took it out back, shot it, and gave it an honorable funeral... (:-
The 2.4 "Quad-4" is a beast. Both the 2.3 and 2.4 are very good performance engines. Being "illegal" in NOPI (last I checked) means the ricers are afraid of them, as they might blow the myth that Hondas are "king". There are maintainence issues with the Quad-4. Durability is another "question mark". The integral water pump makes them unpopular due to repair costs. But these things can FLY! The 2.2 and 2,.4 Eco-Techs are another VERY good engine family, combining many of the better features of the previously discussed designs. Jim |

Re: engine swap ?
i would argue this statement. the "Quad 4" is a love/hate motor. more hate on my end than anything. Timing chains, and head gaskets are notorious on these motors. everyone has an opinion though.
