Are you changing, because of a bad pan or gasket?

A leaking pan can be fixed without removing.

Yes you have to jack the engine up. A lot of steps to the procedure. I would suggest you buy a Haynes repair manual that covers the '93 F150. About 20 dollars. It gives step by step instructions.

is there no way to get the pan out without jacking the engine up?

I doubt if it can be done. Even after jacking the engine up you have to unbolt the oil pump pickup tube after unbolting the oil pan and dropping it down, before pulling the pan out. Even if you could pull the pan out without jacking the engine up, you wouldn't have room to work between the engine block and the oil pan to unbolt the oil pump pickup tube.

It shouldn't be a real hard job if you follow the instructions in a manual for that vehicle. It would be a little time consuming though.
