problems with my turn signals

i am a new owner of a 92 grand prix and i have problems wit my blinkers they wont work unless i hold them in a certain postion any suggestion

sounds like you need a new multi switch. it is the lever you use to turn on the signals.

how would i go about installing a new multiswitch

here are directions from a 92 grand prix 3.4 dohc


Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove nut retainer and jam nut, then the steering wheel.
Remove turn signal cancel cam assembly.
Remove hazard knob screw and the hazard warning knob.
Position turn signal switch so that turn signal switch screws and housing screw can be removed through openings in switch.
Remove housing screw and the column housing cover.
On models with tilt columns, remove shoe pin retainer cap.
On all models, remove pivot switch screw and the pivot and pulse switch assembly.
Remove turn signal switch screws.
Remove wiring protector from opening in instrument panel bracket on jacket assembly and separate from wires.
Disconnect turn signal switch connector from ignition and dimmer switch assembly connector.
Disconnect 17 way lock from turn signal connector.
Using terminal remover tool No. J-35689-A or equivalent, disconnect wires on buzzer switch assembly from turn signal connector.
Remove turn signal switch assembly from column.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
Torque turn signal switch and column housing cover screws to 35 inch lbs.
Torque pivot switch screw to 20 inch lbs.
Torque hazard knob screw to 7 inch lbs.
Torque jam nut to 30 ft. lbs.
