this came with the eaton locker diff if 4x4, in most vehicles..also the auto 4x4 with the dash control switch is what I have...could come with manual 4x4 shift lever also..

Z71 is nothing but a slightly stiffer ride...I got the standard suspension which I found with bilstein shocks is a perfect ride with good handling..

tow pkg comes with a deep tranny pan and the electricals for towing equiptment..If towing a large heavy trailer it would be best to add a large tranny cooler rather than the small one GM installed..the 6L engine would also be best with frequent towing..

your clearance would depend on the tires..go to the car lot and check it out...GM trucks of this year have the lowest ...but with larger wheels you can get higher clearances..

well i am not gonna tow that much but i want to be able to tow if needed... do you know how big of tires i can get on the truck if i didnt lift it because that can get expensive.. is the locker diff better or worse then posi track... i am kinda new to all this off roading... and you said somthing about the transmission cooler i live in so cal so its gonna be hot most of the time but if it gets cold will the tranny cooler thing affect the transmission

the locking diff is open until a slip has occured then the diff locks solid until a few rotations then releases..very good for traction , does need fluid changes regularly..

the other diff which I believe was not used with these trucks that GM made is the limited slip diff, this was designed for cars , not very good for traction on ice /snow too limited in tractive control..

the transmission will need a large tranny cooler installed, this with synthetic tranny fluid will keep things under control..california has mountains[been there driving] and heat inland...

big tires are now a big item , many have decided to go with..I have not because my use is not requiring added hieght ...If off roading you will need the proper tires..sizes to be used would depend on lifting the body ..this creates a problem when cv/U joint angles need be resolved..if body height is increased..

these engines have issues with the ks[knock sensors] when the engines are washed, this causes ks to get damaged/corroded...going thru water and other wet conditions is not an issue ..its when the engine is wet down sprayed with water and cleaning chemicals that is not recommended by me, and is in GM'S view damaging ..
