2003 malibu key?

just bought a 2003 malibu only had 1 key so i go to walmart ask the guy can he make me 3 more keys or are these the keys that have chips and cannot be duplicated he put the key in a devide and turned it and sais yea i can make you a duplicate key. well i get home and they will unlock the door but not turn the ignition but after some jiggling found that after the key is pushed in all the way and back it out just a tid bit it will turn the ignition and start the car. so my question is ..... is the key cut wrong are is there a flaw in this cars ignition switch?

Typical walmart key, not cut to the proper depth, get your key cut somewhere else like an ACE or even better a locksmith.
