Trabant 601, Revell 1/24
Hi
My latest build is the very new Trabant 601 by Revell (2009 kit, new tooling). A very good kit, no problems at all. I did some modifications (no head rest, different dashboard, different belts, correct license plate) because I wanted to make our very own Trabant like my granddad drove 20 years ago (the kit is a 80s Trabant, we had a 70s model, rebuilt front after a small crash and privately repainted). I used MFH flocking for the seats (we had a fluffy seat cover), did some wiring on the engine, microballs for the floor and glove box and a painted wiping cloth as mat for the boot. Colours used were gulf-blue (looks very similar to our glacier-blue) from the can, a mixture of Aquacolor white, grey and Vallejo ivory for the roof and the engine bay, Tamiya chrome marker for chrome parts, and for the rest mostly Aquacolor. I used the Tamiya weathering set for the bottom side and the engine bay. Hope you like it. PS: I had a WIP in a German Forum, if someone is interested (http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=30866.0)

Re: Trabant 601, Revell 1/24
Nice
Damn, I haven't seen a DDR sticker on a car in years now I really must get one of these kits even just for sentimental reasons. I'd do it with a Berlin wall diorama made with real bits of The Wall or maybe as one that had been modified with hiding places to smuggle people across the like the ones in the Berlin wall museum ...:LOL

Re: Trabant 601, Revell 1/24
Nice one. I wonder how made the chrome stripe that clean applying the black rubber band on top. That is very well done.
We had the same 70īs Trabant. For some reasons we had a blue instead of a white roof. Ah - memories. That stinking little bastard. Cheers Robert

Re: Trabant 601, Revell 1/24
Very nice Trabbi! Still have the old Revell kit in my stash, but havenīt dared starting it, yet. It looks so crappy.
Yours is looking very fine. Cleanly build and colour seems to be a perfect match. Makes me want to buy this kit, too. Iīm missing some panel lines at the doors, though.

Awesome little model. I would love to build this. Never even heard of this car before. You sure did a nice job with it. I also wondered about the black trim piece.

Re: Trabant 601, Revell 1/24
Thanks all
![]() I used a bit too much paint, so the panel lines are less visible, but I always had problems with darkening, so I left them. The chrome stripe with the black line was hand painted. However the black line is raised on the parts, so you it's not so difficult as it looks. Funny you like them; those were the only parts I didn't like and was not satisfied with the finish. I thought this one time it would have been better if they would have been moulded in the body. I tried to mask it, but it didn't really work.

Well done! I really like the opening trunk, that adds tremendously to the model.
