Check Engine PO410 code

My 96 4.3 engine has a Check Engine light come on, happened today, about a week after the water pump was replaced. Had the code pulled and it is PO410, secondary air injection malfunction. I looked by the air pump and there is a connector with a purple ring that is hanging down underneath. Could this be the cause of the problem, and could it be possible to drive for a week with the a/p disconnected and no light, then have it suddenly come on? thx.

the air pump comes on when first starting. if the pcm does not see O2 sensors correct response the dtc 410 will result.

water enters the air pump when the check valves all three fail..when this occurs the pump is in need of replacement as well as the check valves.

the pump has an internal check valve the exhaust manifold has one on each side..the hoses need be removed and inspect for water..the hose to the air intake from the air pump also needs to be inspected...

the operation if continued will result in the MAF getting contaminated with exhaust gases from the check valves if defective..
make sure the pump fuse is good ,,,if bad this is because water or coolant got into it.....

since the water pump replacement requires air pump , removal it is possible that the connections were not properly completed..

who did the water pump? is the water pump still leaking ?

Re: Check Engine PO410 code

Is the fuse in the UEC intact? Does the underhood light work (same fuse)?

Re: Check Engine PO410 code

Looks like the Air pump plug was unplugged, I plugged it back in and have not seen the light for several days now (hopefully).
