03 altima wont start, please help

ok so im working on a friends car for them, first off the alternator was making some funny noises and was getting really hot, so i replaced that last night and the car started fine and ran fine alternator problem gone. But when she started it she just let it run long enough to see that it was not making any noise anymore then shut it off. This morning she went out to go to work and the car would not start. It sounded like it had a dead hole when she tried to start it so i pulled a spark plug and made sure it had spark and it did. The car wants to start but just wont take it gets so close to starting but just wont fire and run. does anyone have any thoughts, she needs it fixed today because they are leaving town for a week.
