How to clean car backseat?

I went on a trip during holidays with my friends. A friend a mine spilled some Mexican food and beer on the backseat. Its really looking very bad. Wondering whats the best product available in the market to clean food/beer off the seat and whats the easiest technique to perform this task. I gonna check out some online stores like Autobarn, JC Whitney and AutoAnything. Hope to get some good stuff there. Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Hi dealrocker, it's definitely a pain in the behind to clean stains, especially if the fabric is light colored... in order to prevent such "accidents" from happening and ruining your holiday trip along with your seat cover - try googl-ing iCover nanotechnology. They have awesome water based products which make all surfaces water and stain repellant. Check it out and let me know what you think

One way to get it cleaned up is using distilled water (1 gallon with a teaspoon of liquid ivory soap...mix well or shake bottle) ( distilled water is a natural solvent and mixed with a pure soap like ivory, it becomes a very powerful yet safe cleaning liquid and it's green without harsh chemicals.)
using a spray bottle or sponge, wipe down the mess and then use a good wet/dry vac to get the moisture out, towel dry and you should be set.

Your best bet is to take your car to a processional car detailer ! They have the necessary equipment , materials , and experience to do the job properly and not do any damage to your vehicle . Just my $0.02 !

Re: How to clean car backseat?

I have actually taken seats out for a good power washing.
Consider using a scotch guard protection after cleaning.

Caution - The high pressure can also cause damage, so be careful.

Re: How to clean car backseat?

really isn't hard to clean seats- trying to just clean a spot is tough-should clean the complete seat- many cleaning products work- depending of course what the stain was- many try to do a quick simple spot clean- depending on the material- you could make things worse- there aren't many cleaning products out there that will damage your seat material- test of course

if you have a decent steam cleaner you can do as good as a detail shop

try what you think might work- whole section- test on a sort of out of the way area first of course

Re: How to clean car backseat?

Thanks for the information. I am running a car service center and find so much of problem while cleaning the back seat. I thought of many things but they were costly and harm the body of the seat. but i thing house cleaner will work well if the cleaning is done carefully.

Re: How to clean car backseat?

You can wash it with the help of any washing powder as it is not a complicated thing to wash.

no???

hum- used to use vacuum cleaner way back-
do repairs- when finished and test drive complete
remove trash, vacuum interior with brush type nozzle
lightly spray on some upholstery cleaner on the seat bottoms-(unless they were nice) foam type- let sit a bit- vacuum up foam/liquid

customer came, paid-
"you cleaned my car, you didn't have to do that"
customers never complained
many would chuckle- "we'll bring it back for someththing and a clean"

got a Bissel Pro Pet Steam Cleaner( house model) does wonders on Escape seats

You could also use a cloths iron steam function only.

Re: How to clean car backseat?

Yes, you can clean your backseat with a tissue and a of mug soapy water. Clean it properly, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean it. Also you can spay room fresher to remove bad odor.

For Cleaning Cloth Seats

You Will Need:

  • Vacuum with attachments
  • Upholstery cleaner
  • Spot remover
  • Stiff brush
  • Soft white cloths
  • Wet vac (if needed)
Steps to Clean Cloth Seats:

  1. Begin by vacuuming all surfaces of the seats to remove any loose dirt and debris. The attachments are helpful for reaching tight crevices and in between the seats and the console.
  2. Next, look over the seats to identify any stained areas that will require extra cleaning as well as weak areas that may show signs of damage (holes, thin fabric, etc.). Weak areas should be cleaned with caution to avoid damaging the area further.
  3. Apply an upholstery cleaner to the surface of the seat. It works best to work in small sections.
  4. Work the cleaner into the fabric with a stiff brush. Extra scrubbing will be required to removed stains and heavily soiled areas.
  5. For stains and soiled areas that do not come clean with the upholstery cleaner, apply a spot remover. Again, work it into the fabric with a stiff brush.
  6. Wipe any excess cleaner away with a clean, white, soft cloth.
  7. Check the product label. Many products do not need to be rinsed, and the area can be left to dry.
  8. If rinsing is required, spray water over the area (small amounts at a time so it doesn’t saturate the foam cushion) and remove with a wet vac immediately.
  9. Allow the seats to dry completely. Keep windows down until the seats are dry to avoid mold and mildew growth.

For Cleaning Leather Seats

You Will Need:

  • Vacuum with attachments
  • Leather Cleaner
  • Sponge
  • Soft cloths
  • Water
  • Leather conditioner
Steps to Clean Leather Seats:

  1. It is best to clean leather seats in the shade.
  2. Vacuum the seats to remove any loose dirt and debris.
  3. Apply the leather cleaner to a clean, dry sponge.
  4. Rub the sponge over the surface in a circular motion until the entire surface is covered.
  5. Dry the surface with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
  6. It is best to work in sections, repeat the above steps until each seat is cleaned.
  7. Apply the leather conditioner using a soft cloth.
  8. Allow the seats to dry for at least one hour.
