The Calsonic Project

Ok, so ive just gotten back into the swing of things and all ready Im taking on an over-ambitious project, typical of me. Any how, the whole reason I got into modelling was because of the love for my old 240sx. This led me to the love of Nismo racing. And my favorite color is blue so.... the idea is to build all of the Tamiya Calsonics. Ive gotten them all except for that pesky Primera (anybody got one, I pay top dollar!). Anyhow NNL East and NNL Mid-Atlantic are in a few months so I would like to do a diorama of all the cars together. Ideas anyone? Im going to try to not get hung up on the details of anyone model and build these fairly quickly but I will be using any and all detail parts I can find.

Special thanks to Kevin at Stradasports.com. He has gotten me most of the detail sets I have now and is continuing to try and track down the ones I dont have. Jameston at Scalefinishes.com who is mixing me up a big bottle of "TS-44" and "TS-29" (is Tamiya paint getting more expensive every day?). Thanks to Racer93 for trading me to get the last Calsonic I didnt have, except of course for that darn Primera.

Also I hope this can become a compendium of Calsonic as Ive noticed not a lot of them have been completed around here. I will be adding any reference photos I find and hopefully you will return the favor of sharing yours. Many of these kits were started and are in varying states of completion. So this is more of a build Diary then a WIP. Sorry for the TL;DR

The kits...Resins will likely be added soon.

The details....

Re: The Calsonic Project

Looking forward to see this one. I recently finished the Calsonic Impul Z, unfortunately it had a hard life, but ended up with a very interesting crackle paint scheme

I am working on something along the same lines, except it is the Z family, rather than the Calsonic Family.

Keep up the posts, and let me know how the paint from Scalefinishes.com works for you as I am thinking about their Jagermeister Orange.

I did some test with Scalefinishes.com Aston Martin Almond Green. Sprayed it over Tamiya White Fine Primer and clear-coated it with Mr. Super Clear. Fantastic results, no problems using three different brands. Great color match. Couldnt be more pleased with the results. I also did this all in about 45 minutes using a dehydrator between coats which can stress paint, no problems.

Re: The Calsonic Project

I'm really interested in following this, particularly in the R33 and the 2003 R34. I can't wait to see how you tackle all of these kits.

Re: The Calsonic Project

Scalefinishes has the Jagermeister paint in 2oz bottles. Since I am doing the 1/12 scale Tamiya, I am thinking 2oz may not n
be enough. How did you get such a large bottle, and if you don't mind me asking, how much?

The Hobby design kit for the GT-R (R35), I think, what cones in the box and how is the quality. Looking forward to seeing that one as it's on my list forthe motul gtr.

I really dont want to quote prices on behalf of Scalefinishes.com but you should really e-mail him through the site explaining your needs and scale of the model. Ive had very fast responses and he is more than happy to discuss your project. Im fairly certain he can mix up any amount you might need.Oh and mention my name for the best service. Lol

The Hobby Design R35 kit includes 3 large sets of PE including everything from fenders to a fan to full brakes. It also includes a bag of some 30 tiny small buttons and switches for the interior controls. Pretty great set though i havent tested anything for fitment. Also all PE is plastic backed meaning no cutting parts from metal sprue, they all just peel off.

Say Whhhhhhhat?

Never new hd would do something like that to benefit us the modelers rather than them. My gtr r35 hd kit has all the parts on trees, rats. One thing to mention make sure you clean the parts well before painting to get rid of any residue.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: The Calsonic Project

Wow, you sure are getting back in the swing of things with style. Quite the undertaking for sure, I myself, wanted to get back into it with something simple. Will be looking forward to seeing how you tackle this big project. And yes, nice to see familiar avatars again after such an absence.
