Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

Came across some F1 Fan page on Facebook with a list of famous F1 owners. It contained all the 'usual suspects' but also mentioned that Michael Schumacher had one in his collection. First I've ever heard of that!

Any clarification?

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

Also some where I have seen stories that Ralf Schumacher has owned #13R some part at the history?
True or not, certainly he raced it.

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

mini magic has mentioned rather convincingly here or elsewhere in the past that Schumacher owns a McLaren F1.

It wouldn't shock me if it was true, but I haven't seen the proof myself. Perhaps he had to keep it on the down low during his relationship with Ferrari?

It's been a rumour for a while; Can't see it myself, but you never know what he has in his underground garage....

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

How easy would it be to consider which car he might have?

I'd imagine with the knowledge on here of location and curent owners, we could at least cross off a fair few and try and whittle down the possibilities?

I'll take a stab at it:

I think it is safe to assume he was an original owner - probably a 1994 or 1995 chassis, prior to him joining the Ferrari team in 1996, therefore:

Chassis #004 is MIA, painted Grand Prix Red. Perhaps the red F1 that was rumored to be in Monaco?

Chassis #010 in silver is believed to be the Bernd Pischetstrieder crashed F1

Chassis #012 is believed to be the Tag Heuer F1 used in the Best Motoring videos - current location unknown to me

Chassis #049 is an unknown silver 1996 F1 - we used to believe that chassis number belonged to #046, the Barazi F1

Chassis #050 is an unknown silver 1995 F1

Chassis #052 is a 1996 F1 that's MIA, painted Dark Blue Mica - we have factory build photos

There are a few other later chassis numbers we know little or nothing about, but it seems unlikely to me that he'd have been buying an F1 from McLaren after 1996 when he joined the Ferrari team. Sort of a conflict of interest there IMO.

From that list, #004, #049 and #050 seem most likely to me if the story is true.

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

As Erik suggests, I'm sure it's not commercially expediant for an F1 Driver to flaunt ownership of a rival teams car.

I recall reading an article in F1 Racing about 3 years back where all the then F1 drivers were asked what cars they owned. It was pretty grim reading! The Honda drivers had Civics, the Toyota ones had Prius's, etc. Can't recall anyone suggesting they had a dream stable!

Anyway, as an aside, I saw on-line maybe 4 years back the yellow Bugatti EB110GT that Michael was given (and featured as a 1/43rd scale model in Minichamps "Schumacher Collection" for sale in Manchester (England) -it was physically 'on premises', so not speculative, so that one less for his collection.

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

I would like Schumacher owns a F1 but we have nothing, really nothing ! Minimagic, it's time to say more or stop because you say "nobody knows" and you know ? So, if it's a friend of a friend of my cousin's uncle...

Murraydeschot > it's a SS with GT trim.

Re: Michael Schumacher owns an F1?

I'd just like to comment that mini magic definitely has developed some good sources in the automotive world specific to both Ferraris and McLarens. If he's confident that the Michael Schumacher rumor has a basis in reality, then that's enough to give it credibility for me.

Now having a story with no detail is unfortunate, but as I have always said, the real answer will come out eventually. That statement has been proven to be true more than a few times in this forum over the years.

Thanks for the confirmation of ownership. And for giving me a wee bit more info on the yellow EB110.

Given the info Chris shared from AutoCar that #050 was built for Ron Dennis, I think we can safely exclude that from the list of possibilities here now.

I'm also going to exclude #004 because of something I just discovered - so that leaves #049 as the most likely possibility of being Michael Schumacher's McLaren F1, if he really has one.

I alluded to some later chassis numbers we know nothing about. They are #057 built mid-1997, and #066 built later the same year. If anyone has a clue about either one of them, please do share. Perhaps Schumacher had to wait till some of his Ferrari money started coming in to buy the car and didn't care what the bosses at Ferrari might think?
