a now intermitant lack of power issue. 94 corolla 1.6 198k 2months ago car lost power at pedal wot throttle no response girlfriend got off freeway when this happened and putted it home. took around the block then lost all power. took to shop ignition timing off 20 something degrees. nothing broke leaking loose. everything checked ok other than timing. then today again same thing. barely starts. when it does barely any respose from pedal. so far everything checking ok. any pointers from any1 out there. im thinking distributor but dont wana shoot the money gun. thanks

Nothing broke? How about stretched, as in an old timing belt?

When was the last one changed?

Re: 94 corolla

Check that the ignition coil isn't bad or going bad, then the igniter. Doesn't sound like the answer, but the symptoms do indicate a poor spark.

Other ideas are stuck IAC valve, engine coolant temp sensor, and stuck EGR valve. Only the EGR is expensive if it can't be cleaned. Good luck!
