No crank issues w/ 2000
I am still having trouble with my van (2000 3.4LV6). I thought it was the passkey but I haven't taken it in yet. Does anyone know if a tripped passkey system stops a fuel pump from priming. I am pretty sure my pump is priming. Also, if the passkey system is the problem, does the security message stay up? Mine flashes between the battery symbol and the security message when the key is 'on'. I don't recall now what it did when it was running. I have tried the relearn procedure but no luck. Everything works but no crank. I get what sounds like a click coming from the dash near the fuse box and a click or bump sound from the engine compartment when you switch the key from start to run (after trying to crank).
Someone at work mentioned the starter relay and I hadn't thought to check that so I will soon. Is there a way to test? Is it the same procedure as other relays as listed in Haynes manual? Any thoughts? Scott |

Re: No crank issues w/ 2000
An incorrect key will not stop the car from cranking, just starting, so that's not the problem. Also, fuel pump won't prevent the engine from cranking either- so that's not the issue.
You should start with the battery--could simply be low. Sounds likely your starter is faulty, but try jumping it first. Most starters can fail with a bad winding, and if that's the case, you should hear the click when you turn the key, but no cranking. Try smacking the starter with a broom handle while someone tries to start it. In the end, if you have to replace the starter, its not a bad job. |
