maintanence light 2001

After I start my 2001 odyssey the maintanence light blinks 10 times before going out. Is the car trying to tell me something? or is this a normal function?

It supposed to come on every 7,500 miles for a service indicator. with the key off press and hold reset and select to your right on the instrument cluster panel and turn key to the second click with out starting it and after 10 second the light will reset.
