bravada front end

I have a 98 olds bravada. About a month ago i started hearing a loud humming noise coming from the drivers side tire. It has steadily gotten louder and now it is so loud that it is hard to think. the noise has turned into more of a thumping sound now, but there is hardly any vibration. i thought something was wrong with the tire or rim, so i replaced it but it is still making the noise. the sound is like when you have a knot in your tire. any help is appriciated.

It is not safe to drive it like that.

Better take the tire and wheel back off and have a good look at things there.

Check axel shaft and joints.
Check wheel bearing and brake rotor and pads.

Shake tire and wheel for loosness.
Did you check lig nuts for being tight?
Any rotor damage?
Is the caliper mounting bolts tight?

yes, i shook the tire while it was off the ground, no play. rotor is in good shape but brake pads are in bad need of replacement. that wouldn't make that noise that i'm hearing, would it?

If it is making them kind of noise it has got something bad.
Not safe to drive like that
You need to look untill you find it.
The life you save may be your own or a family member.
If you can not find it have a repair shop check it out for you

If in need of replacement why not replace and check rotor for cracks.
Have you check the axel joints?
Have you check the axel boots?


Did you check the caliper mounting bolts?

Does the noise increase with MPH or engine rpm?

Does noise change with turning the wheel a little going down the road?

First, I appreciate the concern. Have not checked caliper or axle boots,I will. Noise gets louder with MPH and turning wheel does not make a difference. Thanks for your help so far.
