help fuse keeps blowing

88 XJ 4WD 4.0L 6cyl auto trans

OK i figured the radio problem out I mistakenly broke the power from the radio from fuse block while driving and didnt even realize it so Radio is working again
I pulled the headlight switch down where i could see it for testing
i tested the red/red & blue wire for 12 volts and it read 12. something
soon as i pull the headlight switch to the on position it blew the fuse again! I feel like I'm starting from square ..... why would this happen i cant check the blue wires now cause the fuse blows every time i put it in............ What a piece of shit...... at this point im ready to swap back in the New headlight switch but im running outta fuses!!!!!

whats next what do i do NOW!!!

Alright check it broham, Just calm down tbecuase you are a capable man who can find the problem, okay. Just breath... just breath. You said that as soon as you pull the headlight switch to the on position... Thet leads me to believe that the problem is somewhere along the headlight lines. Wiring can be the most frustrating of all car problems I think, so just be assured that as tough as this is, it cant get much worse. you can fix this. Take the time to follow the wires back and do what you have to do to find a short or burnt wire of some sort. Then remove the wire(s) that are melted or burnt or shorting with new fresh ones. that will fix it. YOU ARE MAN HEAR YOU ROAR!!! Think how great it will be if you persevere and fix the problem!!! Recently I was having the worst problem eith my wifes car removing a cv axle, I didnt have the right tools but I had already taken the car apart to the point of no return, so I persevered until I figured the problem out. YOu can do the same. Thats what makes us KICK ASS MEN!!! Forgive me, Ive been drinking so Im a little crazy right now. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!! When youre sober of course. good luck.

Hey, I like that last post. Have a few brews, may not get anything fixed, but, you'll feel better for a while. I haven't looked at headlamp wiring for your vehicle, sometimes, I use a testlite in place of the fuse. The testlite controls the load on the circuit and you don't blow all your fuses. I'm not saying that is perfectly safe,because, I can't see what your doing from here. I've never had any problems? I'm not sure that is the correct wiring diagram, below? You can take connector loose from headlamp switch, use a testlite between voltage and blue wire terminal, if the lite comes on, there is ground.

You mentioned your stereo problem at the begining... Is the stereo an aftermarket or factory one? I remember that jeep / dodge had an issue on the stereo ground, if you used the factory wiring. It would back feed from an aftermarket stereo, and blow the fuse for the dash lights as soon as you turned them on. Disconnect the stereo wiring, put a new fuse in and try it. If that is the problem, then just run a separate ground to the body somewhere for the stereo.
